What can I do if symbols remain unresolved in my capture?
If your capture is missing symbols, which you can see by addresses being displayed instead of function names, the most likely explanation is that Superluminal can’t find the corresponding symbol file. To diagnose this, you can right-click on a function that’s missing its name and select “Show Symbol Info”. This will give you a new dialog with detailed diagnostics on where Superluminal attempted to find the symbol and why it was not found.
See the documentation for more information.
How do I capture on another machine?
You can use the commandline version of Superluminal, SuperluminalCmd, to capture on other machines. This does not require a license. The resulting capture can be transferred to a machine that has an activated seat for analysis in the Superluminal UI, or using AI agents. In the future, we’d like to implement support for remote capturing, but that is not available yet.
See the SuperluminalCmd documentation for more information.
How do I get access to the console versions?
Go to the Xbox or PlayStation page, and click the “Get Access” button. Access only needs to be granted once per account, not per user. After we’ve received your developer status confirmation from Microsoft/Sony, we’ll enable the support on your account on our side, and the relevant files will be automatically installed after going to Help / Check for updates or at the next startup of Superluminal.
Can I use Superluminal with my AI agent?
Yes! We have full support for AI agents via either a CLI or MCP, whichever you prefer. This is part of the commandline version of Superluminal, SuperluminalCmd, and requires an activated Superluminal license to access.
See the AI page and SuperluminalCmd documentation for more information.
What are your plans for <platform> support?
Superluminal currently supports Windows, Xbox, PlayStation and Linux. We are investigating whether support for Steam Deck is feasible, but other platforms beyond that are not currently planned.
Do you support circular buffer captures?
Circular buffer tracing is not yet directly supported in the Superluminal UI or in the command-line tool. We do support loading circular buffer captures on Windows, and captures can be made outside of Superluminal by using UIForETW.
Make sure to check ‘Compress trace’, ‘Context switch callstacks’ and ‘Fast sampling’. Then instead of selecting ‘Tracing to File’, select ‘Circular buffer tracing’.
How do I deactivate a machine?
If you still have access to the machine and have Superluminal installed, launch Superluminal and click on the account button in the top-right corner of the application and click ‘Sign Out’. If you don’t have access to the machine anymore, you can deactivate machines through the Users page on the dashboard if you’re an admin of your account. Otherwise, you can ask an administrator of your account to deactivate it for you.
See the licensing documentation for more information.
On how many machines can I activate my seat?
You can activate Superluminal on up to three machines for a single seat. This is designed for scenarios where you’d like to use Superluminal on a work machine, a home machine and a laptop.
See the licensing documentation for more information.
Can I transfer a seat between users?
It is possible to transfer a seat between users by deactivating the old user and activating the new user. Note that it is not allowed to use this functionality to “share” a single seat between multiple users. This functionality is intended to handle scenarios where a user, for example, leaves the company or in cases where the license is permanently transferred. Sharing a single seat between multiple users is prohibited by our EULA.
Do I need a license to capture?
No. A license is only needed to analyze a capture through Superluminal’s UI, or through the AI tools. The command-line tools do not require activation to be able to use them.
See the command-line tool documentation for more information.
Can I get an educational license?
Yep! Send us an email at [email protected] from your school email address and we can set you up. Note that we’re already working with several (gamedev) schools, so you might already have access to Superluminal through your school. If you’re part of the faculty, we can set you up with an educational account that you can manage for students.
Are floating licenses available?
Floating licenses are currently not available.
